We use words to talk with people when we communicate. Isn’t it fascinating that Bible says that Jesus is “the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us to reveal the glory of the Father, full of grace and truth?” (Jn. 1:1 and 1:14) At Christmas time, we have an amazing example form God Himself about the importance of using gracious words to communicate His love with other people. God could have sent Jesus on a lightening rod with a thunderbolt for all to see, hear and be terrified by. Yet, God sent Jesus to be born as a baby to be laid in a manger, soft and gentle, the Word of God in the flesh. We should learn to use words that are gracious and inviting to others who believe differently than we do, so that we can build bridges of relationship that will bring “peace on earth and goodwill to men.”
